The Christmas presents are still scattered everywhere, stuffing is hanging off people's chins, and it's hard to know how to tighten the belt, literally and metaphorically for the coming new year. New Year's Eve is the chance to get the last ounce of holidays out before the return to the grind of everyday life. However, most people by New Year's are as broke as it gets.
No need to fret, however! There are plenty of ways to have a blast this New Year's without filing bankruptcy. The following tips can make sure that New Year's is fun, memorable, and keep the repo man at bay.
Have Fun with Friends at New Year's
The easiest way to save money is by having close friends over and doing something relatively inexpensive. Movies and a bottle of cheap champagne for midnight can do the trick. Another fun and cheap way to celebrate is an impromptu dance party. Clearing out the living room or kitchen for extra space and dancing around is fun, and might burn off some of the holiday bulge.
Parties do not have to be expensive, either. The key to having a fun time at New Year's is about creating an atmosphere of fun and excitement for better times in the new year. Small party gifts left over from stocking stuffers makes a host look charitable and kind without seeming overly lavish. Party hats and noisemakers are fun, but certainly not mandatory for a smaller group of party goers. When in doubt, downsize.
Cheap and Filling Food
Food is another budgetary item that doesn't have to cost a fortune. The traditional black eyed peas are relatively inexpensive, especially when canned. Leftovers from Christmas can be frozen and thawed out for the New Year's party. Other inexpensive items include snack trays. Some proteins have been shown to fill stomachs better than other foods, leaving guests satisfied and money in the bank.
Fun with a Partner
The holidays can be difficult to spend alone. That's why having a partner can be one of the best things for the budget-tight and holiday-weary. Sexual activity is one of the best solutions to the question of what to do for New Year's Eve. Inexpensive and fun, sex is a good way to deal with the money crunch, and if it's true that what happens on new year's day is what happens all year, so much the better!
If the situation doesn't allow for the kind of intimacy needed for the above activity, a romantic walk or cuddle can be a comfortable way to enter the new year. A small token of appreciation can also brighten someone's day. Put aside a Christmas gift and offer it as a present on New Year's eve
New Year's Alone
While no one likes to spend holidays alone, there is not reason fun cannot be had. Watching a favorite movie, reading a book, or even catching up on much needed sleep in order to mock the hung-over can be amusing in and of itself. Call a loved one to tell them happy birthday, or put aside the grudge with a nasty neighbor and tell them, "Happy New Year!"
There's no reason not to have an enjoyable New Year's Eve! Enjoy the hope of a new year approaching, and make the best of the situation. Happy New Year!
